Grand Canyon and Sedona, Arizona, October 29–November 2, 2018

On Monday, October 29, my wife, youngest daughter, and I drove to the south rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. The park is on Mountain Standard Time (an hour earlier than Mountain Daylight Time of our home), which gave us feeling of having an extra hour to drive.

It was dark as we drove the winding roads of the final few miles to our lodging at the National Park. The next morning we went exploring.

The next day we drove to Sedona, Arizona to hike and explore. Sedona has more roundabouts than any other place I've visited (including England). The residents there many retirees who grew up in hippie culture of the 1970's. The scenery was stunning.

We visited the Roman Catholic Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona. In 2007, Arizonans voted it one of the seven man-made wonders of Arizona. (Unfortunately, this one photo doesn't do it justice.)

On November 1, Barbara and I left our daughter to do some serious hiking in Sedona while we drove a short distance to Prescott to visit the Fort Whipple Museum there.

Named after General Amiel Weeks Whipple, the fort is now the site of a  site of a veterans' hospital. Amiel explored much of the West prior to the U.S. Civil War. He died at the Battle of Chancellorsville in 1863 while defending Washington D.C.

After the short visit to Prescott, Barbara and I returned to Sedona for another hike.

We awoke early on Friday, November 2, and drove back home. It was a fun vacation!
